What this is

Michigan Birding Daily publishes one report every morning, built around a notable or recent sighting somewhere in Michigan. Each report draws on live eBird observation data from the past 14 days, flagged notable sightings, county hotspot rankings, NWS weather forecast, sunrise and sunset times, and season context. Claude Haiku writes the draft, Chris Izworski reviews the data source, and the post publishes under his byline.

When a statewide notable sighting is available, the daily report follows that bird into its county. When the statewide data is quiet, the system falls back to county rotation so the archive still grows into a county-by-county birding reference for Michigan.

Why counties

Because birding happens in places. A birder planning a trip to Delta County or a resident wondering what is moving through Kalamazoo County needs local information. A statewide average does not help. The county-level focus gives the reports teeth: specific hotspots, specific species, specific weather.
